Houston Services

AAMA offers the following services which include support groups on topics related to HIV, alcohol and substance use prevention education and treatment for individuals seeking to gain more information and network with others facing similar situations. All services are offered in Spanish and English.

Buena Salud (SBIRT) Program

  • Screening quickly assesses the severity of substance use and identifies the appropriate level of treatment.
  • Brief intervention focuses on increasing insight and awareness regarding substance use and motivation toward behavioral change.
  • Brief SUD treatment of up to 20 sessions may be provided 
  • Referral to treatment provides those identified as needing more extensive treatment with access to specialty care.
 
(SBIRT) is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment services for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are at risk of developing these disorders.
 
Primary care centers, hospital emergency rooms, trauma centers, and other community settings provide opportunities for early intervention with at-risk substance users before more severe consequences occur.

HIV Prevention Services

HIV Prevention Program Services include:

  • Prevention education on HIV, STI’s, and Viral Hepatitis
  • HIV, Hepatitis C (rapid results) and Syphilis Testing
  • Condom kits with lubricant
  • Referrals and linkage to Medical Care, PEP/PrEP, and other social services 
  • Clients meet individually with an Outreach Specialist and together tailor a plan of action that best fits individual needs.
 
Outreach Specialists can schedule to meet individuals beyond normal testing location sites to provide services to people who are at high-risk of communicable infections. Services include; Risk reduction counseling, information dissemination, prevention education, referral(s) linkage and resources for PEP, PrEP, substance use treatment, housing, medical benefits, and additional public health screening. Outreach Specialists also serve as liaisons for individuals who are unable to access services due to language barriers.
 
Our HIV Prevention Community Health Workers offer CDC and the State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services-approved evidence-based intervention(s).
 
¿Y Ahora Qué? A grassroots intervention that helps newly diagnosed individuals come together and build strong bonds while learning the steps of how to stay healthy! (Virtual Sessions available) A $50.00 gift card and certificate of completion are given once all sessions are completed.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment Services

Project Tejas assists the community with issues related to Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders. We provide psycho-social assessments, individual services, group, family education, and continuum of care services to include; After-care, recovery peer support. All services are individualized and tailored to meet the needs of our clients. English and Spanish services are available.

The program is culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, and approved by the Texas Health & Human Services Commission (THHSC) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) Center’s Substance Abuse Treatment (Virtual Sessions available). Upon completion, participants will receive a completion certificate.
